Spax 3.0 – A Road-Legal Racing Car
What happens when you take the powertrain of a high-performance car and use it as the basis for an uncompromisingly lightweight racing car for the road?
In collaboration with BMW Motorsport GmbH and Sport Auto magazine, we developed the concept for the Spax 3.0 – a radically lightweight vehicle designed to combine maximum performance with a comparatively straightforward technical implementation.
The concept was built around lightweight construction. Rather than developing an entirely new sports car, the proven powertrain of the BMW M5 was to be carried over. This eliminated the need for the complex development of the engine, transmission and other drivetrain components, allowing us to focus on what really mattered: an extremely lightweight vehicle structure and a distinctive, unmistakable body design.
The design, concept engineering and CAD model were developed at Target Design. The result was an uncompromising vehicle concept that impressed with its low weight, projected performance figures and radical design language.
The Spax 3.0 anticipated a vehicle concept that would later become reality with the KTM X-Bow: radical lightweight construction, an open racing-inspired architecture and maximum driving dynamics through a consistent reduction to the essentials.
