Case Study: Sachs Beast 1000 – Intermot 2000
How Target Design Created One of Intermot’s Standout Attractions

At the time, Sachs was primarily known as a manufacturer of mopeds and small motorcycles. While developing a new 800-cc roadster, we came up with an idea: Why not also develop a spectacular show bike that would attract maximum attention at Intermot and position Sachs as a serious motorcycle manufacturer?
We presented our vision to management—but the reaction was cautious. They didn’t believe it was possible to develop a motorcycle capable of causing an international sensation in such a short time.
It wasn’t until three months before the show was set to begin that the decisive question came: “Can you really do this?”
Our honest answer was: “Yes—but not in such a short time.”
After intense discussions, it was clear: the opportunity was simply too exciting to let slip by. So we agreed to do it.

From the first sketch to the finished show bike—in just three months
In no time at all, an idea turned into a fully roadworthy motorcycle. The bike was completed the evening before press day. We rode it through the exhibition halls to the Sachs booth, with an ever-growing crowd in tow.
Even before the show officially opened, one thing was clear: this motorcycle was going to be the talk of the town.

The Birth of the Sachs Beast
Not only did Target Design create the design—we also came up with the name “Beast.”
The Sachs Beast became a crowd-pleaser at Intermot. Pictures of the motorcycle went viral and appeared in the international trade and general press. Even the major motorcycle manufacturers sent their designers to the Sachs booth to examine the bike up close.

What began as a bold trade show project became a symbol of innovative strength—and suddenly Sachs faced an entirely new challenge: The enthusiasm was so great that the company came under considerable pressure to actually put the Beast into production. Unfortunately, however, it lacked the financial resources to do so.
