Magirus Aerial Ladder Main Control Station
The movement of the aerial ladder is controlled from a central main control station integrated directly into the slewing mechanism. The existing unit had become outdated, so Magirus commissioned an external design studio to develop a new model.
The initial design was convincing – but during implementation with an external plastics manufacturer, it became clear that the concept could not be realized in a way suitable for production. Several rounds of revisions also failed to produce a viable solution.
The solution: Magirus changed designers. That was when Target Design came into the picture.
We retained elements of the existing design language but developed the control station from the ground up. The focus was on a design engineered for efficient manufacturing and optimum ergonomics. This included the intuitive arrangement of the various controls, a high level of seating comfort even when wearing full operational gear, and easy access to communication equipment.
We coordinated the key development stages closely with Magirus and the plastics manufacturer. This allowed design, ergonomics and manufacturing requirements to be brought together from the very beginning.
The result: the project was saved. The new main control station became standard equipment on all Magirus aerial ladders. And because good design stands the test of time, it is likely to remain part of Magirus vehicles for many years to come.
