Evobus Dashboard
Evobus commissioned us to design the dashboard for a combination bus – a vehicle type used for both regular public transport and long-distance coach services.
A project like this is always a particular challenge: the technical package imposes tight constraints, existing components have to be integrated, and at the same time, ergonomic requirements are high. Last but not least, every development is subject to considerable cost pressure.
Our aim was therefore to turn these constraints into a coherent, functional design rather than simply assembling a collection of technical components. The entry assistance is a good example: instead of being added as an afterthought, it was consistently integrated into the overall design of the dashboard.
The result was convincing not only from a design perspective. The new dashboard was also less expensive to manufacture than its predecessor and consequently remained in production for more than ten years.
For us, it is a particularly good example of what successful design is all about. It must not only look good – it must reconcile technology, ergonomics, cost and durability, and prove itself in everyday use.
