Dynafit Beast
A conventional alpine ski binding is only partly suited to demanding ski touring.
Lightweight touring bindings, on the other hand, reach their limits under high loads and at high DIN settings, while on groomed slopes they cannot match the performance of an alpine binding.
Dynafit was therefore looking for a solution that would combine touring capability with downhill performance. The result was the Dynafit Beast, a completely new frameless touring binding with settings up to DIN 16. At the same time, it reduced weight by around one kilogram compared with comparable solutions.
For the design, we deliberately made the technical innovation visible. Instead of hiding the mechanism inside a closed housing, the Beast exposes its functionality in a precise and purposeful way – much like the mechanical movement of a skeleton watch.
The design itself thus becomes an expression of the technology: every component is visible, and every shape serves a function. At ISPO 2013, the Beast attracted considerable attention not only for its technical innovation, but also for its distinctive design.
